It’s raining!!! Welcome to Scotland!!!!
After breakfast we went to the university to visit the International Student welcome meeting and after that the freshers welcome meeting. That was quite interesting and after that we went to our student adviser. You can’t get anything in here without having contacted your student adviser, that’s even for the normal students. (No ID-Card, which means no internet and access to anything) But we recognised that all Erasmus students were supposed to meet 3h ago, bad luck. So we decided to go into town and visit the main building of the Student Union, which is the Gallowgate Union. There’s a snack bar, some offices, 5 discos,…. Quite impressive, we don’t have something like that in Germany. Then we tried to find a branch of Barclay’s, the only bank where we can withdraw money without paying. It took us ages to go there and after that another hour to get back to hour halls.
Then I ate with my flatmates: Instant noodles, rice, fried salad leaves (chinese way) and the obligatory beer. After that we hurried to Marischal College to join the debaters society. The topic was “This house thinks that religion is the root of all evil”. Four speakers for the proposition and the oposition tried to state their view within seven minutes, sometimes it was allowed to interrupt the speaker, but only if he wanted. After that everybody in that house was allowed to give his own speech and comments. That was quite an interesting and really funny event, I laughed a lot. Interestingly, politicians, Professors and students werde discussing quite freely and it was just fantastic.
After that we went to that Gallowgate Union again and joined the crowd for a beer.
